Statement from Ron Pfenning (15 February 2005)

World Skating Federation

Friends of World Skating Federation,

I am very disappointed to report that U.S. District Judge John Sprizzo has dismissed the lawsuit filed by the WSF against the International Skating Union. Although the ruling is not the one we had expected, we must accept the ruling of the court.

In the near future documents shall be filed to dissolve the WSF.

The organization may cease to exist but the ideals shall continue. We put important issues about our sport out for debate and we can be proud of the efforts that have been made on behalf of our athletes and sport.

The hope and optimism, which existed the day the WSF was announced, has been greatly diminished by actions from the ISU, certain member federations, and finally, this ruling. Yet the support for the core principles on which the WSF was founded live on. I know that all of us remain committed to these principles. Our sport must have active participation by its athletes, open and honest judging, and democratic governance without any geographical area of the world controlling the sport.

For me personally it has been a privilege to be part of this movement. I want to thank all those who supported the WSF, morally and financially. Please know the tenets of our work survive and prosper in our hearts, for they are the great hope for the future of our sport.

Ron Pfenning, WSF Acting President
